Summersville is the ideal getaway destination for outdoors enthusiasts, since there's so much gorgeous natural scenery and recreation areas nearby that you'll never be bored. I was lucky enough to visit Summersville in the summertime, and it was one of the best weekends of my entire summer. This impressive, picturesque lake offers 60 miles of shoreline and dramatic sandstone cliffs, and I can admit that it's one of the prettiest lakes I've been to in the country. There are plenty of activities to enjoy at the lake, from boating and kayaking to fishing and scuba diving, which is why Summersville is such a hotspot destination in the summer.
Outdoor Recreation
In addition all of the activities available at the lake, the Summersville area has a great selection of outdoor recreation, and it's a particularly great place for hiking. There are many hiking trails around the lake that offer breathtaking views of the lake and the surrounding forest, and you can find trailheads at Battle Run, Salmon Run and Long Point. There's nothing quite like working up a sweat on a hike before jumping into the lake to cool down.
The Town
After a long day basking in the sunshine at the lake and enjoying the great outdoors, I headed back into town, which is the perfect place to return to if you want a relaxed, feel-good environment. The town of Summersville is small, yet full of charm and cheer. There are a number of great restaurants and shops in the area, so you'll be able to enjoy a good, filling meal after spending a day playing in the sun.
