Texarkana is certainly one of the most interesting cities I've visited in the US, primarily because this city is actually divided into two cities. One city of Texarkana is located in Texas, while the other city of Texarkana is located right across the border in Arkansas. Despite the fact that the two cities are in different states, it can be difficult to tell when you leave the Texas side of Texarkana and cross into Arkansas. I was so intrigued by the thought of Texarkana that I decided to plan a quick little trip to this city on the state line. State Line Avenue
The two separate municipalities of Texarkana are divided by the state line, which you can actually walk down on State Line Avenue. Because this street is actually right in the middle of two states, the addresses of the post office and federal building on State Line Avenue are actually in two separate states. Walking down State Line Avenue is definitely a unique experience that you can't find anywhere else, and that's why it was my first stop during my trip to Texarkana.
Historical Sites
Both on the Texas side and the Arkansas side, Texarkana is home to a number of great historical sites. Some of the historical sites I visited were the Garrison-McLain House, the Ace of Clubs House and the Bi-State Justice Building. You can also visit the largest tree in Arkansas while in Texarkana. This tree is an impressive 61 feet tall and is over 16 feet in diameter.
The Outdoors
Texarkana locals love enjoying the outdoors, so I decided to experience the beauty of the natural surroundings while I was in town, too. There's Spring Lake Park, which offers great walking paths and sports fields, to the beautiful Wright Patman Lake, where locals go to enjoy fishing and beautiful lake scenery. Other popular outdoor recreational activities include hunting and golfing, and you can find plenty of great public parks and spaces on both the Texas side and the Arkansas side of Texarkana.
