HotelTonight – Great Falls Hotel in West Ridge
Even though I've traveled all over the U.S. throughout the past decade, I haven't spent much time in Montana. I recently realized that I needed to remedy this, as Montana is considered one of the most beautiful states in the entire country. So I decided to take a spur-of-the-moment weekend trip to Great Falls, Montana, which is known for its abundance of majestic waterfalls, pools and springs. Nicknamed the "Electric City" for its high number of hydroelectricity dams, Great Falls is a city built on the Missouri River, which made it an intriguing place to visit. After all, I was craving a break from the traffic, noise and crowds of the city, so I was more than happy to escape to the peaceful town of Great Falls. Since I like to stay in local neighborhoods when I travel rather than super touristy hotspots, I decided to stay near the West Ridge neighborhood of Great Falls. To book my last-minute Great Falls hotel, I simply pulled up the HotelTonight website on my phone, and within minutes I had a great hotel room waiting for me in this lovely Montana town.
The Great Outdoors
There are a lot of things that are great about this town – the people, the falls and the outdoors. When in Montana, I knew that I wanted to spend as much time enjoying nature as possible, which is so easy in Great Falls. This city is smack dab in the middle of some of the most beautiful natural landscapes you've ever seen, and you can immerse yourself in nature at parks like the Giant Springs State Park, the First People Buffalo Jump State Park and Gibson Park. There were just so many beautiful sights to see near Great Falls that I hardly spent any time indoors.
The River
Great Falls is built around the impressive Missouri River. This wide, powerful river is the force that fuels the hydroelectric dams in the area, and it's certainly a sight to behold. There are a number of riverfront parks and walking trails that locals enjoy regularly, so I decided to join these locals every chance I could. I went for riverside walks in the morning and in the afternoon, and came across countless friendly locals every time.
Central Great Falls
Whenever I needed to shop for some warmer outerwear or grab a bite to eat, I headed into Central Great Falls. There are a number of great little shops and restaurants in this compact district, so you're sure to find whatever you need here. You'll also likely meet at least a few locals who will be more than happy to give you some great travel tips.
