I've been traveling to and through Detroit for decades. I've always enjoyed the history associated with the Motor City and always looked forward to my work trips there. I promised myself that if I could ever find some time to explore a neighborhood or two, that's exactly what I'd do. The Museums
The first thing I noticed when I pulled into town was that there were quite a few museums there. I love cars, and this was a museum that took a timeless look at the automobile industry from the day it began so many years ago. There were more things to look at than just cars as well, as there were classic pieces of memorabilia from a wealth of different contexts.
The Outdoors
When I'm in Detroit, I know that there is a lot to see, but one thing I've never really considered is the possibilities for enjoying the outdoors. There are a lot of different parks here, and it was a beautiful day when I was there, so I put on my walking shoes and got outside for a bit. I went to one park that was not only enormous, but it was so set off from the bustle of town that I would have sworn that I was walking around in the wilderness somewhere.
The Dining
There are a lot of options for dinner in Dearborn, but a lady at the park told me about a barbecue place that had been filling up almost since the day it opened. That sounded great to me, so I made my way over there for a bite. It was an attractive place with wooden floors, walls and ceilings, and I went with the brisket, cornbread, macaroni and cheese and a local beer. I ate so quickly I couldn't believe how much I was putting down, but it was all that delicious.
